SYNOPSIS
In the ordinary town of Edmonville a tremor hits, followed by a second devastating tremor, then darkness. The next morning, the survivors discover that most of the town has disappeared into an enormous crevasse. As they struggle to survive, one by one people start to disappear without trace.
“An awe-inspiring study in desperation and the supernatural, with excitement lasting without respite to the final page.”
—Daily Mail
“Has a sense of brooding menace that really makes it unputdownable.”
—Starburst
“An acclaimed master of his craft.”
—Evening Chronicle
“Stephen Laws has always had the gift of making his readers believe the unbelievable...even when they would really rather not. His horrors rise from the page like a corpse rising from a rain-soaked grave and touching you with a cold, muddy hand.”
—Graham Masterton
“At the forefront of his field, Stephen Laws shows horror’s most valuable function—the use of great darkness to point up and define, in truly spectacular fashion, that which is truly humane.”
—Stephen Gallagher.
“Stephen Laws is the authentic article—a writer whose love of good horror is as profound as his skill with it. He’s one of the true contemporary treasures of the field.”
—Ramsey Campbell
