ABOUT THE BOOK
VOLUME ONE - The Early years
(Signed by Stephen Jones with facsimile signatures of Farnsworth Wright and Dorothy McIlwraith)
The first volume celebrates the pulp’s rocky early years, during which the future of the title was still perilous. However, under the guiding hand of Farnsworth Wright (and with a little help from Otis Adelbert Kline), Weird Tales quickly began to establish itself as the “The Unique Magazine”. It started to attract a regular readership with writers and artists that included H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, Seabury Quinn, Frank Owen, Donald Wandrei and others who are forgotten today.
VOLUME TWO - The Unique Magazine
(Signed by Stephen Jones with facsimile signatures of Farnsworht Wright and Edwin Baird. This edition also has genuine signature sheets from five of the original contributors to the magazine: Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Jon Arfstrom, Malcolm M. Fergusson and Gahon Wilson)
The second volume celebrates a period when its stable of writers and artists included H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, Hugh B. Cave, Howard Wandrei, Manly Wade Wellman, Robert Bloch, Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Virgil Finlay, Hannes Bok, Lee Brown Coye and others.
VOLUME THREE - Masterpieces of Weird Fiction
(Signed by Stephen Jones with facsimile signatures of Farnsworth Wright and Dorothy McIlwraith)
During its first fifteen years, the magazine’s future was always perilous, and one of the ways Farnsworth Wright and the publishers quickly learned to save money was by running a “Weird Story Reprint” in nearly every issue.
This also allowed the pulp to attract some surprising, bigger names, while also recycling material from earlier issues, and this third volume includes masterpieces of weird fiction from, amongst others, H.P. Lovecraft, H.G. Wells, Bram Stoker, Charles Dickens, Arthur Machen and Arthur Conan Doyle.
